I have always believed that I am a great driver, but most people do not seem to agree with me. I am told that I am an aggressive driver, but there is such thing as an effective aggressive driver. I get places a lot faster and have never once crashed or gotten a ticket. However, there has been a couple times when I have almost died. The most vivid one was one rainy day. As most of you know, Southern California does not get a lot of rain, so this was a situation I was not used to.

I was driving the usual 55 mph with rain pounding on my windshield. Squinting my eyes, I could barely make out the red light up ahead. I pressed down on the brake, but it resisted my push. I stepped with all of my might, but the pedal hardly moved. My car went speeding towards the stopped car up ahead. There was nothing I could do as I sped towards the car, hardly slowing down at all. 100 meters, 50 meters, 20 meters. Terror filled my gut as I braced myself for impact. Miraculously, the light turned green, and the car in front of me shot forward as quickly as it could. I came within inches of their rear bumper but did not hit them. Needless to say, I was a very careful driver for a long while.

Moral of this story: push your brakes early in the rain.
